Shifra Goldenberg, Ph.D.

Shifra joined the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance in 2021 as a Scientist in the Conservation Science and Wildlife Health department. Prior to joining SDZWA, Shifra worked as an Ecologist at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute after completing her doctoral and postdoctoral research with the nonprofit organization Save the Elephants. She received her undergraduate degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Michigan and her doctoral degree from the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology at Colorado State University. Her research is at the intersection between behavioral ecology and conservation, usually focusing on elephants. She works with a team of scientists at SDZWA and collaborators in Kenya to advance conservation goals in the northern Kenya rangelands. Shifra is also a member of the IUCN SSC African Elephant Specialist Group and a Research Associate with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute.
