Sara earned her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Ross University, where she was a research assistant on a project concerning an outbreak of Yersinia enterocolitica in African green monkeys. Following this, she completed two years of anatomic pathology training in a residency program at Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. Her research interests focus on disease emergence in marine and wetland ecosystems in relation to environmental change.
